Service
Whether it is picking up trash, planting trees, feeding the homeless, or making cards for the veterans, service is the backbone of our club. We strive to make our community better by our service events.
Continuing Service Events
I Dig Long Beach
Quarantine may have soiled in-person events, but we're still sowing the seeds of service in other ways!
Before the stay-at-home order, our organization planted trees in a Long Beach neighborhood alongside our lovely Kiwanians! The trees are funded by a grant from the Port of Long Beach. |
Long Beach Citadel Corps - Food Preparation
Even a pandemic can't halt all service! The Long Beach Citadel Corps, a chapter of the Salvation Army, prepares food bags to distribute to low-income senior housing (New Hope Home).
Here, gloves and masks ARE provided. Volunteers have plenty of room and do not interact with clients, but we do channel the spirit of giving among each other— just six feet apart! |
Love Letters for Literacy
Did you know that children who heard more words were better prepared for school?
Long Beach CKI wants to help encourage pre-readers learn the alphabet and promote childhood literacy, especially in at-risk neighborhoods! At this event, we will create letter packets to help children foster a love for reading! |
Notable Events
Feed the Community
Not only did we feel hungry for service, but ready to use that big ole' brain of yours? During quarantine, we held weekly "Feed The Community" service sessions!
We utilized the FreeRice website to help feed people internationally via their "Smarter Than a 5th Grader" trivia questions! The games range from basic language (Spanish, French, etc) to easy arithmetic questions. |
Serve-A-Thon
In February 2020, our club hosted an overnight service collaboration with Metro Division! A bunch of fun service projects were hosted by our fellow Metro schools.
Throughout the night, we also had an online and on-site candy gram fundraiser! Half of the proceeds went to the Trevor Project and the other half went to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. |

Impact Teams
General members have a unique opportunity in both leadership & service: Impact Teams! These teams are student-led efforts spearheaded by general members, for general members. Any general member may apply every month to focus on one specific area. From there, general members create a plan to make a difference in areas such as mental health or other community topics.
